Vastu for Children Bedroom

A children’s bedroom in Vastu should support rest, focus, and growth. Choosing the right direction, bed and study placement, and colors can help with sleep and concentration. This guide covers ideal location, dimensions, color scheme, and remedies for a children’s bedroom.

Ideal Location and Direction

The north-west or west is often recommended for a children’s bedroom—these directions are linked to creativity, rest, and calm. The north-east can work for younger children as a gentle, calm zone; the east supports learning and active thinking. Avoid placing the children’s room in the south if possible, unless it is well-lit and well-ventilated; the south is associated with fire and can make the space too active for rest.

Recommended Dimensions

For a single child, a room of about 10×10 feet to 10×12 feet is comfortable. For two children or a study area inside the room, 12×12 feet or 10×14 feet gives enough space. Ceiling height of about 10–11 feet allows good air flow. Prefer a regular rectangular shape; avoid L-shaped or odd corners so energy flows evenly.

Bed Placement

Place the bed so the child’s head is toward east or south for restful sleep. The south-west corner of the room is a stable spot for the bed. Leave a little gap between the bed and the wall; avoid placing the bed directly under beams or in line with the door. Keep at least one side of the bed open for movement.

Study Table and Study Area

Place the study table in the north-east or east part of the room. The child should face east or north while studying to support concentration and memory. Fix the table against a solid wall; avoid placing it with the back to the door or directly facing the bed. Keep the study area well-lit and clutter-free.

Color Scheme

Use soft, balanced colors: cream, off-white, light blue, soft green, or light yellow. These support calm and focus. Avoid very dark shades (they can feel heavy) and very bright or harsh colors (they can cause restlessness). Matte or low-sheen finishes are better than glossy.

Remedies and Tips

If the room cannot be in the ideal direction, keep it well-lit and ventilated, and avoid clutter under the bed. Use a small plant or soft lighting in the north-east if that corner is used for study. Avoid mirrors facing the bed and too many electronics in the sleeping zone.
